Segmenting cementing operations into two main categories: primary cementing and remedial cementing.
Operators use cement on a regular and almost systematic basis to hold casings in place and prevent fluid migrations between formation layers, through the annulus.
You can divide Cementing operations into two main categories: primary cementing and remedial cementing.
Primary cementing aims to provide zonal isolation at critical points in the annulus around the casing or in the openhole below the casing string. Cementing processes not only restrict fluid movement between the formations but also bond and back up the casing. Loss zones in the formation layers might compromise the primary cementing, requiring annulus isolation to resume cementing operations through second-stage cementing, or multistage cementing. In such cases, Saltel External Casing Packers (Xpandable ECPs) will be associated with a cement port above, to
- isolate the loss zone
- resume primary cementing operations above the annulus isolation ECP packer
Running Xpandable Steel ECP is an effective mean of achieving reliable secondary cementing operations.
First, you position the Packer above the troublesome formation, on a competent hole section. Once expanded, the Packer provides adequate support for cement circulated through the stage collar up to the surface. Depending on the number of loss zones and length of the casing, one-stage (and more) cement jobs are achievable. The robustness of the Steel Packer reduces any risk of damage during RIH, even in slim holes.
Remedial cementing is also called squeeze cementing. Saltel Industries does not provide squeeze cementing solutions but is often used as a complementary barrier to cement squeeze. Saltel Xpandable Steel Patch is installed to cover the squeeze perforations and reinforce the casing integrity after the squeeze. Operators have significant concerns about well integrity when it comes to stimulating the well with high pressures, and Saltel Patch is additional security in remedial cementation integrity.
